An overnight police chase that crisscrossed Maryland and Delaware resulted in a manhunt along railroad tracks in Elsmere.
Maryland State Police said they picked up a pursuit on Route 222 in Cecil County around 1:45 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2019.
The initial pursuit of the vehicle, which was reported stolen out of Charles County, Maryland, started back in Ocean City, then into Delaware before reaching Cecil County, investigators said.
In Perryville, police said the suspect drove down CSX railroad tracks with local law enforcement in pursuit on foot.
The car then turned around and drove back towards Perryville officers, who fired multiple shots at the vehicle, according to authorities. It's unknown if the suspect was hit.
The driver did bail out and ran into a wooded area where Maryland authorities said they set up a perimeter, but the search proved fruitless.
At some point in the early morning hours, sources said police received information that the suspect may have hopped a train and was possibly along the CSX lines in Elsmere.
Tactical officers, K9s and a state police helicopter all responded to the area and searched unsuccessfully. DelDOT crews closed the South Dupont Road bridge during the operation.
The suspect remains at large.
