A Middletown man is dead after he was hit by a car as he walked across Summit Bridge Road early Saturday morning.
The 57-year-old man made it across the southbound lanes as he attempted to cross from the entrance to the Mount Pleasant Mobile Home Park, but was hit when he stepped into the path of a northbound car, Delaware State Police said.
The car's driver stopped at the scene, and police say he wasn't impaired or speeding.
The pedestrian, who police say wasn't in a crosswalk, didn't carry a light and wasn't wearing reflective clothing, was pronounced dead at a nearby emergency room.
The northbound side of Summit bridge Road was closed for about two hours after the accident.
