Flu deaths reach all-time seasonal high in Delaware

Three new flu deaths bring the total number of deaths associated with the illness to eight for the 2018-2019 season, Delaware health officials announced Thursday.

According to the Delaware Health and Social Services Division of Public Health officer, a 74-year-old Sussex County woman, an 83-year-old New Castle County man, and a 41-year-old New Castle County woman were the most recent deaths attributed to the flu.

The New Castle County victims represent the ceiling and floor for the age-range of victims during the current season.

All had Influenze Type A, and all had confirmed or suspected underlying health conditions, including the 41-year-old woman. As of January 19, 2019, there had been 1,268 lab-confirmed cases of the flu in Delaware, with 224 individuals having been hospitalized due to the illness.
