A brush fire that has been burning for over 24 hours is likely to blame for the smoky air and smell in the Newark and Elkton areas.

NJ.com reported a fire broke out Tuesday in Monroe Township, Gloucester County, local officials told them it was 10% contained as of 8 p.m. Tuesday night.

An unusual weather pattern has brought east winds to Delaware for most of this week, so instead of sending the South Jersey smoke towards the Shore, the winds are directing the smoke westerly towards Delaware.
