Newark National's 2019 Delaware Little League State Champions

Newark National's 2019 Delaware Little League State Champions

Newark National couldn't hold an early lead and fell to Haverstraw, New York 9-6 in an extra-inning game at the 2019 Little League Mid-Atlantic Regional.

The Delaware champions jumped out to a 1-0 lead, and led 3-1 after three innings, but four straight runs by New York forced Delaware to rally in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend the game, but New York's 4-run 8th was too much to overcome.

Newark forced the extra innings when Brad Marks' RBI single brought the game to 5-4, only to have a New York error allow Brady McBride to score the tying run.

After a scoreless 7th inning, New York's 4-run rally put Newark in a deep hole.

Mark Spoor would get a run back with an RBI single that scored Charlie Porter, who was placed on 2nd base to start the inning with the international tiebreak rule.

Two strikeouts and a fielder's choice ended Newark's hopes for a another rally.

Chase Thornton gave Newark the lead when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded with 1 out, but Delaware could not get another run across the board.

After New York tied the game in the top of the 2nd, McBride hit a sacrifice fly to give Newark the lead back, with Marks' RBI double following for the 3-1 lead.

New York would chip away, tying the game in the 4th, and getting single runs in the 5th and 6th, and they'd never trail again.

Marks started for Delaware and allowed just 2 earned runs before hitting his 85 pitch limit with 8 strikeouts. He also went 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs at the plate.

Newark will now play an elimination game against Enola, Pennsylvania Tuesday at 10 a.m. The winner would then play another elimination game on Wednesday.

New York advanced straight through to Thursday's Semifinal No. 1.
