A new initiative meant to get more people to visit Newark's parks is underway, and features attractions including kids' activities, food and beer.
Newark's Parks and Recreation Department had a specific age group in mind when they thought up Parks On Draft, said Grain Craft Bar and Kitchen co-owner Lee Mikles.
"They'd been looking for fun ways to reach that middle demographic of 25-to-45-year-olds, which is a community that enjoys Newark and is looking for things to do," said Mikles.
The event, a collaboration between Newark Parks and Rec and Grain, launched this week and continues through 8 PM Sunday at Olan Thomas Park at Cleveland Avenue and Paper Mill Road.
Some of the attractions are food, yoga and music, and Mikles says if this year's event comes off well, they'll expand it to all of Newark's parks and include more restaurants in 2020.
