An Odyssey Charter School Board member has stepped down over a controversial comment.
Board president Josiah Wolcott confirmed to WDEL Wednesday that board member Michael Klezaras resigned from his position following a tense town hall meeting Tuesday night.
The state announced an investigation into the school after members reportedly joked about erecting a border wall between the Odyssey campus and neighboring Academia Antonia Alonso Charter School, which has a Latin population of almost 70%.
Wolcott said Klezaras has apologized, and is engaged in a "dialogue" with the Hispanic community
Community organizations are hosting a rally Wednesday night in support of Academia Antonia Alonso Charter School's students, whose administration has demanded the resignation of all members of the board and administrative leadership at Odyssey Charter School who "took part and reveled" without restraint in the racist commentary.
