A 40-year-old man was hit and killed by a Delaware State Police vehicle on State Route 1 in Rehoboth Beach early Sunday morning.
A trooper was out on a call around 12:15 a.m. on August 11, 2019, with his vehicle's lights and siren on, state police said.
Near the Route 1/Church Street intersection, the pedestrian stepped into the vehicle's path and was hit, according to police.
The pedestrian, who police said wasn't carrying a light, wasn't in a crosswalk and didn't have reflective clothing on, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The trooper involved, who's assigned to Troop 7 in Lewes, was placed on administrative leave until the investigation into the accident is completed.
State Route 1 was closed at the scene for about three-and-a-half after the accident.
