A Maryland couple has been charged with trying to take a security guard's gun during a struggle, just south of Dewey Beach.
Delaware State Police said that John Clancy of Towson and Julia Price of Baltimore, both 21, approached the guard in the area of Indian Beach early Monday and asked for a ride to Ocean City, Maryland. He told them a cab would be called, but when they walked toward a home, the guard warned they'd be arrested.
Police said Clancy knocked the guard down and as they struggled, Price tried to take his gun. Dewey Beach Police arrested Clancy and Price and turned them over to troopers. They're charged with attempting to remove a firearm from a law enforcement officer, second-degree conspiracy and offensive touching.
They were both arraigned at JP3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on bond.
The guard wasn't injured in the scuffle.
