The search for the body of a person who reportedly jumped into the Christina River Friday morning was called off by that afternoon, authorities announced. 

According to Wilmington Fire officials, firefighters and members of the New Castle County dive team spent much of the day searching for a man who South Walnut Street Bridge operators said was witnessed jumping into the water around 9:20 a.m. on July 12, 2019. 

An extensive search was conducted on land, by water, and even the air with assistance by the Delaware State Police aviation unit, but after 90 minutes, the search had been designated a "recovery" mission, and by 1:50 p.m., following hours of no conclusive results. officials terminated the search.
