An 18-year-old man was found in possession of drugs and a stolen firearm, Smyrna Police detailed Monday.

According to authorities, Bashan Mcivor was spotted idling at the intersection of Owens Brook Drive and Kent way with the lights of his vehicle off around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2019.

Police said evidence of drug activity was spotted during the stop, and Mcivor, a front seat passenger, began moving around the vehicle and refused to keep his hands where officers could see them.

After a brief struggle, Mcivor was detained and a search of the vehicle turned up a 9mm handgun reported stolen in 2017 in the glove box where Mcivor was sitting, and marijuana and 27 bags of heroin were located on his person, police said.

Mcivor was charged with possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited-previously convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a person prohibited, receiving a stolen firearm, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, and possession of marijuana. He was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $33,000 secured bond.
