An overnight house fire in Wilmington's Canby Park section killed two firefighters and critically injured 2 others.

The blaze was reported shortly before 3 AM at 1927 Lakeview Road, and the fire wasn't the only concern, WDEL's Mike Phillips reported.

"There were people trapped in the house, and Wilmington firefighters arrived on-scene greeted by heavy fire and smoke conditions, and unfortunately, two firefighters are dead," said Phillips.

41-year-old Lieutenant Christopher Leach and 51-year-old Senior Firefighter Jerry Fickes were killed as the result of a floor collapse.

Four of their colleagues were hospitalized , and one has since been released--the state Fire Marshal's office and federal Department of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms are investigating the blaze.

Salesianum School is holding a Saturday afternoon prayer service for Leach, a 1994 alumnus.
