Motorists traveling between Newark, Pike Creek and the Christiana Hospital complex are going to find a tougher commute starting in July.

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) has announced that a section of Harmony Road is scheduled to be shut down in mid-July.

The closure extends from Route 2 (Capitol Trail) down to Green Ridge Road to allow A-Del Construction to renovate the bridge crossing White Clay Creek, including a new concrete deck.

Roadway approach work is also included in the construction contract.

Complicating matters for drivers is that Red Mill Road is already closed to thru traffic between Ruthar Drive and Route 273 for a widening project that is scheduled to last until early August as well.

Ruthar Drive, which connects Red Mill and Harmony roads, is expected to see a significant increase in traffic as a result.
