A multiple alarm fire destroyed two homes, located off the east side of Silver Lake, early on Tuesday morning.
The Delaware State Fire Marshal reported that it took crews from nine Sussex County fire companies--Rehoboth Beach, assisted by Lewes, Bethany Beach, Indian River, Millville, Milton, Slaughter Beach, Georgetown, and Millsboro Volunteer Fire Companies--to fight the inferno, that touched off at 3 Sand Dune Drive, around 3:06 a.m. on March 13, 2018.
Officials described that two homes were already heavily consumed by flames as firefighters arrived at the scene. There had been reports that wind played a factor in spreading the flames to the neighboring home.
Considerable heat from the fire also impinged three other dwellings, noted officials.
The incident was reported under control at 5:29 a.m. and some fire personnel remained at the scene until mid-morning. One firefighter, who suffered a laceration to the head, had to be was transported to Beebe Hospital for treatment.
Officials said that none of the homes were occupied at the time of the fire.
The origin and cause of the fire remained under investigation by state Fire Marshal deputies.
Damage was reported to be $5,000,000.
