A 47-year-old Claymont man, who was killed after a car hit him as he walked along the sidewalk next to Philadelphia Pike early Friday morning, has been identified.

Marc Wise was walking on the sidewalk in front of the Burger King shortly before 3 a.m. on August 9, 2019, when a car drifted onto the sidewalk and hit Wise, who was thrown into a retaining wall in the Burger King parking lot; he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The car kept going, rolling up an embankment and overturning before hitting a second embankment, going airborne, and landing on its side in the parking lot of a nearby business.

Police believe the car's 18-year-old driver, who wasn't hurt, may have been speeding.

The accident closed Philadelphia Pike between Commonwealth Boulevard and Harvey Road for about four hours.
