A New York man died after the tractor-trailer he was driving ran off of I-95 southbound near the Welcome Center shortly before 9 a.m. on Sunday, November 17, 2019 and crashed into a stand of trees.

Delaware State Police said the 65-year old trucker was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the cab.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said the big rig was in the far left lane of the interstate and, for unknown reasons, drifted right across the other three lanes of the highway, hit another car, and went down a small embankment before smashing into the trees.

The driver of the car was checked on scene for minor injuries.

Several lanes of the interstate were closed for 5.5 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
