A pair of schools within the Community Education Building (CEB) serving kids in downtown Wilmington have a new playground of their very own.

The CEB had a ribbon "pulling" ceremony this week on the new $150,000 facility at the corner of 13th and Walnut streets.

CEB Vice President for Development Mark Duncan said the kids may not notice it as much, but a lot of hard work went into the playground's development.

"A lot of planning went into this, a lot of preparation of this site. This was a parking lot and there had to be the leveling of it. Most of the expense is underneath the playground, not so much the playground itself."

The project was funded entirely through donations.

Both the Kuumba Academy and Great Oaks charter schools occupy space in the CEB.

Three students, Siani, Aubrey and Janya, spoke at the event, thanking the adults and their family members for taking part in the event.
