Wilmington Police are investigating the discovery of a woman's body found Tuesday morning in the Brandywine Creek.

The Wilmington Fire Department was called out around 7:45 a.m. on July 23, 2019, for the recovery in the area of 12th Street and Northeast Boulevard at the Al O. Plant Bridge, which is currently closed for reconstruction.

The body has been turned over to the state medical examiner for identification and to determine the cause of death.

Wilmington Police used a drone to document the area where the body was located.

It was 11 days ago when Wilmington firefighters and members of the New Castle County dive team searched exhaustively for a person who witnesses said went into the Christina River off the Riverwalk under the South Walnut Street bridge, but it's unknown if the two incidents are related.
