Caravel's Cole Reynolds hit an RBI single and struck out four on the mound in relief in a 4-1 win over DMA in a 2019 DIAA Baseball Quarterfinal.
DMA jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Michael Fedorkowicz's sacrifice fly that brought home Wyatt Inman.
Caravel would have plenty of chances to jump into the game, getting four runners on base without a hit in the opening two innings, but they broke through in the 3rd.
After a DMA error extended the inning and loaded the bases, Cole Reynolds hit a bouncer on the right side. Hustling down the line, he beat the first baseman to the bag to allow David Preziuso to score the tying run.
It remained a 1-1 game into the 6th inning, when Caravel broke the game open.
AJ Nardo opened the rally with a single, and then Kevin Keister hit a rocket over the centerfielder's head for a double, giving Caravel their first lead.
After a sacrifice bunt and hit batter put 2 runners on, DMA elected to bring the infield in.
That proved to be a problem when Ethan DeRegis hit a Baltimore chop over the 3rd baseman's head, allowing Keister and Alex Lindstrom to score two insurance runs.
Reynolds, who entered the game on the mound in the 5th with two runners on, retired the side in order in the 7th, ending the game with his 4th strikeout on the afternoon.
He earned the victory for Caravel, who will advance to face the winner of Wednesday's rain-delayed quarterfinal between Salesianum and Wilmington Friends.
If that game can be finished on Wednesday, it's expected the semifinal would be played on Thursday.
