Shane Leatherbury scores a touchdown during practice for Towson

Shane Leatherbury scores a touchdown during practice for Towson. The former Delmar QB was named First Team Preseason All-CAA at wide receiver.

A year after their first postseason appearance in almost a decade, Delaware is picked to finish 5th in the Colonial Athletic Association's Preseason Football Poll.

Delaware did not receive any first place predictions in the vote of the league's coaches and media relations directors.

James Madison was picked first, with 20 of the 24 first-place votes. They're followed by Towson (3), and Maine (1).

Elon received two more points than Delaware to be predicted 4th, and then behind Delaware are Stony Brook, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Villanova, Richmond, William & Mary, and Albany.

Delaware graduate student Mario Farinella was named to the first-team as an offensive guard, with punter Nick Pritchard earning the other top honor for the Blue Hens.

They're joined on the squad by former Delmar quarterback Shane Leatherbury, who has made a successful transition to wide receiver in college.

Leatherbury made 67 catches last year, the third-highest total in Towson history. He caught 7 touchdowns last year, and looks to do even better this year with Tom Flacco, the brother of former Blue Hen Joe, at quarterback.

Running back Dejoun Lee and fullback Owen Tyler were named as Blue Hens on the Honorable Mention list, and they're joined by former Delcastle running back Ahmere Dorsey, who was selected as a receiver representing Rhode Island.

Delaware opens its season on August 29 at Delaware Stadium against Delaware State.
