Caravel's Nicole Rankin scored on 2 free kicks, including one from over 50 yards away, to give the Bucs a 4-1 win over Tower Hill in the 2019 DIAA Division 2 Girls Soccer Championship Game.
Tower Hill stunned the top seeds just before halftime when Caitlin Smith converted a free kick to tie the game at 1 going into half time.
Earlier, Caitlin St. Leger had scored to give the Bucs the 1-1 lead.
The game remained that way until the 48th minute, when Tower Hill passed the ball back to their keeper, but an aggresive play by 8th grader Alaina Alston led to her blocking the clearance, and the ball caromed into the open net to reclaim the lead for the Bucs.
Alston would be fouled just 12 seconds of game play later, and after a yellow card was issued, Rankin set up from 52 yards away from goal for a free kick.
She launched a high arching ball that bounced just inside the edge of the penalty box, and with the surface being warm Field Turf on an 85-plus degree day, it catapulted over the keeper's head and into the net for a 3-1 lead.
Rankin would get one more chance to show her skills in the 74th minute, as she set up a free kick just outside the offensive left corner of the penalty area.
She expertly curled the ball over the wall, and it spun about a half-ball length inside the far post for the 4-1 lead, and the completion of an undefeated season.
Caravel finished 18-0, including a regular-season 1-0 victory over Division 1 Champion Padua.
Tower Hill ended their season at 14-3-1, with 2 of their losses coming to the Bucs.
