A 30-year-old Wilmington-area man has been charged in connection to a Claymont fast-food burger restaurant armed robbery on Monday, Delaware State Police announced Thursday.

According to authorities, Lavar K. Lewis entered the Burger King at 2911 Philadelphia Pike around 6:45 a.m. on September 9, 2019, and pulled a handgun on an employee while demanding cash from the store's safe.

After receiving an undisclosed amount, Lewis fled southbound along Philadelphia Pike.

After being developed as a suspect, a search warrant executed at his residence along Sussex Drive in the Lancaster Court apartment complex turned up evidence linking him to the robbery, according to police.

On September 11, Lewis was charged with two counts first-degree robbery and wearing a disguise during commission of a felony. He was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Center in lieu of $45,000 cash bond.
