A 55-year-old Wilmington Manor-area man was charged in connection to an area convenience store armed robbery which occurred a month prior, Delaware State Police announced Friday.

According to authorities, James McHugh entered the Wawa at 7 East Basin Road around 1:35 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, approached the sales counter, pulled out a handgun, and stole cigarettes.

McHugh was linked to a black Chevrolet Equinox tied to the robbery incident, according to authorities.

He was stopped while traveling along U.S. 13 near I-295 on Friday, July 12, and taken into custody. A search of his Godwin Road residence and of the vehicle itself provided evidence linking him to the crime, police said.

McHugh was charged with first-degree robbery and shoplifting. He was released on $20,000 unsecured bond.
