AI duPont football

Four weeks remain in the regular season, so it’s time to start taking look at the teams who are contention to make the DIAA Division 2 Football Tournament.

Football’s point system is fairly straight forward. It takes into account the size of the opposing school, and how many games they have won.

The challenge, and why we always will tag these figures as unofficial, is that many schools don’t have easily accessible attendance counts, and the figures go back to the 2016 count, so if a school raised/lowered in 2017, it does not matter.

Bonus points will be applied when a school plays a team that has reached one of the bonus levels. Along with playing a Division 1 school, this can go a long way towards getting a team into the tournament.

As always, if you see something wrong, please drop Sean Greene a line at sgreene@wdel.com

Point System

Division I Opponent: 6 Points for a win, 1 Point for a Loss

Division II Opponent: 4 Points for a win, 0 Points for a Loss

Bonus Points: 1 for 7 or 8 opponent wins, 2 for 9 or 10 wins

September 30, 2016 attendance count boundary: 1,119 students, or 560 for all-male schools

NOTE:At this time the A.I. duPont/Christiana game has been judged a no-contest, so the game will not be counted on A.I.’s schedule. Unless A.I.’s point index falls under 4.0 (unlikely), it would not benefit them to reschedule the game, as it could prevent them from reaching 9 wins (costing opponents a bonus point), and a 4-point win would lower their index.
