Middletown opens the season knocking off Smyrna 17-6.

The game was a defensive struggle throughout.

Each team traded touchdowns in the first half, Smyrna scoring on a TD pass from Nick Richardson to Makhi Jackson in the first quarter, but their two-point conversion failed.

Meanwhile Braden Davis hit Najair Smith out of the backfield a 10 yard pass and they made their extra point giving the Cavaliers a 7-6 halftime lead.

Smyrna looked to take the lead late in the 3rd quarter, but an interception in the endzone and 75 yard return by De'Quez Walker set up an early 4th quarter TD by Ben Martin. The Cavaliers added a late FG to win 17-6.

There was some bad news for Middletown as QB Braden Davis had to leave the game with an injury. Coach Zach Blum said it was precautionary and that Davis wanted to go back in for the 2nd half, but he said the Sophomore's future is too bright to play with at this time.

Middletown is 1-0, and hosts Concord next Friday night.

Smyrna is 0-1, and travels to Howard County, Maryland to play Glenelg next Friday night.
