Special Olympics Delaware Senior Director of Sports Gary Cimaglia has named the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association's new Executive Director.
Cimaglia will replace Tommie Neubauer, who announced his retirement earlier this year after taking the position in 2016.
Cimaglia joins DIAA full-time after serving as a board member since 2014, including working as chair of the rules and regulations committee since 2016.
He also has led the connection between DIAA and Unified Sports, which has grown to include 3 sports in recent years.
Cimaglia took his role at Special Olympics Delaware in 2005, and worked as a Special Olympics USA management team director since 2001.
Prior to that he worked with Special Olympics Rhode Island, the state where he earned his undergraduate degree when he attended Rhode Island College. He has a Master of Science from New England College.
Cimaglia will take over as Executive Director on September 3.
The 2019 Delaware high school sports season begins on August 12 when fall practices are allowed to begin.
