Saint Mark's Savannah Seemans and Julia Yurkovich combined for 38 kills as the second-ranked Spartans defeated No. 1 Archmere in 4 sets Tuesday night.
The Spartans were just 3 points away from a potential sweep as the teams were stuck at 22-22 in the third set after Saint Mark's won the opening two sets 25-17 and 25-19.
Archmere would find the answers, winning the last three points to force a 4th set in a warm gym rocking with both schools' student sections.
There would be 12 seperate ties early in the 4th set just to get matters to 13-13, but then Saint Mark's stuck their necks in front off of a kill and ace from Seemans. Yurkovich smashed a shot down the line to get the lead up to 20-16.
Lauren Edminston would answer for the Auks, getting a kill and a block from the middle hitter position, helping shop the lead to 23-22, but Saint Mark's would take 2 of the next 3 points to put an end to the match 25-23.
Seemans had another box-score busting match, with 21 kills, 23 digs, 7 aces, 2 blocks, and 2 assists. Yurkovich added another 17 kills, while Mya Lewis mixed in 4 kills with her 22 assists.
Saint Mark's (6-0) lost just their second set of the season during their unbeaten run. They'll have another battle of the unbeatens on Thursday when they travel to 4-0 Ursuline, a team that like Archmere will go into the match not having lost a set.
Julie Kochie's 16 kills and 13 digs were aided by Edmiston's 11 kills and 5 blocks for Archmere (5-1), who will try to bounce back at 5-0 Newark Charter Thursday night.
