Sean Regan scores for Salesianum in win over Middletown

Salesianum pulled away from Middletown in the second half thanks to 30 unanswered points as they defeated the Cavaliers 49-25 to advance in the Division I playoffs.

Salesianum won the coin toss and elected to defer to the second half.

Late in the first quarter Middletown fumbled at their own 30 yard line. Salesianum would take advantage as Andrew Watkins scored his first touchdown of the game from the 5 making the score 7-0 Sallies.

Middletown would start their next possession at their own 20. They would drive the field and tie the game at 7 with a 22 yard touchdown pass from Drew Fry to Nicholas Johnston.

Salesianum would fumble on the first play of their next possession giving the ball back to Middletown at the Sallies 43 with 9:38 left in the half.

Middletown would take advantage of the fumble with a 13 yard touchdown run by Najair Smith. The extra point was no good and the score would be 13-7 Cavaliers.

Salesianum would get the ball starting at mid-field on their next possession and Andrew Watkins would take the first play all 50 yards for the score giving them the lead 14-13.

Middletown would come right back and retake the lead 19-14 with a 37 yard touchdown pass from Drew Fry to Esaias Guthrie.

With just under a minute to go in the half, Salesianum would pick off Drew Fry and get the ball at the Cavaliers 19. Andrew Watkins would cap off the drive with a 1 yard touchdown run with 11.7 seconds left on a fourth and 1 at the 1.

The score would be 21-19 Salesianum at the break.

The Sallies would break things open in the third quarter.

On their first possession of the third, Gabriele Puzzangara would connect with Sean Regan for a 22 yard touchdown making the score 28-19.

On the next possession for Salesianum starting at Middletown's 33, they would cap it off with a 10 yard touchdown run by Jesse Wheatley.

The next possession for Salesianum started at Middletown's 37. It would be capped off by a 31 yard touchdown pass from Gabriele Puzzangara to Cole Mettenheimer as the score became 42-19 Salesianum.

Middletown would fumble the kickoff by the Sallies giving Salesianum the ball at the Cavaliers 10. Two plays later Salesianum pushed the lead to 30 with a 5 yard run by Andrew Watkins with 2:06 left in the third quarter.

Middletown would get one more score late in the third as Drew Fry connected with Larry Griffin on a 32 yard touchdown pass. That made the final Salesianum 49 Middletown 25.

Salesianum will face Hodgson next week.
