Sussex Central wins the Division I State Championship

The Golden Knights of Sussex Central broke open a tight first half to defeat Salesianum and capture the 2018 Division I State Championship 33-7.

Sussex Central won the coin toss but would defer to the second half.

Salesianum would start their first drive at their own 44. They would get to Sussex Central's 47 before having to punt.

The Golden Knights would take over at their own 11 with 8:18 left in the quarter.

With 6:01 left in the first, Sussex Central called time out. Out of the time out Isaac Barnes would go deep and find his brother Isaiah Barnes for a 59 yard score putting them up 7-0.

There would be no other scoring in the first half and we would go to the break 7-0 Golden Knights.

On the opening kickoff by Salesianum, Shihiem William would catch it at the 1 and go up the left side for a 99 yard score giving the Golden Knights a 14-0 lead.

Salesianum would take over on their next possession at their own 20. After a 3 and out they would be forced to punt. Sussex Central brought the defensive pressure on the play, which would result in a fumble. The Golden Knights would take over at Salesianum's 15 with 9:59 left in the third quarter.

The Golden Knights would take advantage of the short field and Kasim Lewis would score from the 3 with 9:59 to go in the third quarter making it 21-0 Golden Knights.

Salesianum would start their next possession at mid-field. Two minutes later Salesianum would get on the board as Andrew Watkins scored from the 3 cutting the deficit to 14.

Sussex Central would get the ball back at their own 20 after a touchback with 6:43 to go in the third quarter.

They would eat up the rest of the clock in the third on the drive and cap it off with a 15 yard passing touchdown to Javon Toppin with 11:53 left in the game. The extra point would be good and the Golden Knights would lead 27-7.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Sussex Central would get on the board again as TyJhir Sheppard-Parker would ramble 56 yards for another long touchdown play. They would go for two and not convert making the score 33-7 Golden Knights.

As the game was winding down and Salesianum was threatening to get on the board again, the Golden Knights would make a nice play on fourth down at their own 10 forcing the turnover on downs.

The Golden Knights would run a few plays as the time ticked down before beginning the celebration on the sidelines.
